Words by Matt Hansen:
I've always loved when there's a beautifully CGI'd mythical creature in a movie. When your main villain (or hero) is portrayed as a non human being it can be really difficult to make them stand out. But when you have amazing work done (like in Lord of The Rings or Harry Potter) it takes the film to the next level. Give me a film with a sick mythical creature and I'm there in a heartbeat.
Dragon
The OG mythical creature. If you've watched any kind of fantasy movie or show, you bet there's a dragon in it somewhere. There's just something so cool about flying and breathing fire. It's as simple as that. A staple.
Phoenix
The OG mythical creature. If you've watched any kind of fantasy movie or show, you bet there's a dragon in it somewhere. There's just something so cool about flying and breathing fire. It's as simple as that. A staple.
Hydra
The hydra is just terrifying, especially because you can't just kill it normally. It grows more snake heads every time you chop one off and just looks bone chilling. Gotta add that it goes up against Hercules and Percy Jackson. Also it's gigantic.
Kraken
I think the kraken is so cool to me because of how elusive it is. I hate the deep open ocean and thinking about a massive octopus below me sounds terrifying. Have to put this one on here because of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Some of my favorites ever.
Mermaid
Mermaids can be portrayed both as good or evil, and that's what makes them so special. Some films use their beauty to lure the audience into feeling safe with their character and then they just flip on a dime. I've never been disappointed with a depiction of a mermaid. It's always up to filmmakers interpretation.
